Wilmer Valderrama is the son of Soledad and Balvino, who managed an agricultural equipment rental company. His mother was born in Colombia, while his father was born in Venezuela. The family moved to Venezuela when Wilmer was only three years old and then to Los Angeles when he turned fifteen. He has two sisters, Marilyn and Stephanie, and one brother.
Upon arriving in the United States, Wilmer did not speak English, but he quickly learned the language in school and started attending drama classes throughout his education.
